During The GPAI Summit 2023, Inma Martinez, Elected Chair Of The Multi-stakeholder And Co-chair Of The Steering Committee, Emphasized The Keen Interest Among Forum Members In Incorporating Agriculture Into Their Artificial Intelligence Roadmaps And Agendas.

Inma Martinez, The Elected Chair Of The Multi-stakeholder Group And Co-chair Of The Steering Committee, Highlighted That The India Presidency Of The Global Partnership On Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Has Positioned Agriculture As A Leading Sector For Transformation Through Artificial Intelligence.

Speaking At The GPAI Summit 2023, Martinez Expressed Pride In The Commitment Of Many Forum Members To Include Agriculture In Their Artificial Intelligence Roadmaps And Agendas. As The Co-Chair And Project Lead For AI In Agriculture And Farming, She Remarked, "I Am Very Proud To Say That India's Presidency Has Elevated Agriculture To A Top Priority In Their Goals With Artificial Intelligence."

India Has Assumed The GPAI Presidency For 2024, Succeeding Japan. Inma Martinez Emphasized The Impact Of Climate Change On The Dynamics Of Agriculture. Given That The Agricultural Sector Is As Substantial As The GDP In Many Countries, There Is A Pressing Need To Enhance Its Optimization Through The Transformative Capabilities Of Artificial Intelligence.

Martinez Conveyed That The Working Group Aims To Educate Everyone Through The GPAI Agro Portal. Addressing A Common Misconception, She Clarified That Introducing Artificial Intelligence To Artisanal Industries Like Agriculture Doesn't Lead To Job Loss. Instead, It Equips Farmers With Valuable Information For Making Informed Decisions, Improving Their Challenging Livelihoods. Martinez Illustrated That, With The Aid Of Technology And AI, Farmers Gain Insights That Assist Them In Achieving Specific Nutritional Goals, Such As Attaining A Certain Percentage Of Protein In Grains For Human Consumption.

"If You Aim To Sell The Grain For Human Consumption, Failing To Achieve The Required Quality Means The Grain May Be Designated For Animal Feed. Without Earning Any Income From It, Essentially, You Work For Free Throughout The Year. Thus, There Is A Need To Enhance The Value," Explained Martinez. She Emphasized That Concerns About Yield Revolve Not Just Around The Quantity Obtained From The Land But, More Crucially, The Quality Of The Product.

"We Need To Provide People With Nutritional Values," Emphasized Martinez. She Shared That Her GPAI Group Has Initiated A Roadmap To Collaborate With Organizations At The National Level, Particularly Those With Innovation Centers Or Labs Focused On Agriculture.

"I Hope To Establish These Relationships In India And Other Countries. My Current Targets Are France, Spain, Holland—where We Have The Strongest Cases Of AI In Europe. The Plan Is To Build In India And Australia In 2024," She Stated.

Laurence Liew, Co-chair Of The Innovation And Commercialization Working Group, Discussed The Empowerment Of Small And Medium Businesses Through The AI4SME Portal. He Highlighted Its Adaptability For Adoption By Various Countries And Customization To Meet Specific Needs, Emphasizing That SMEs Constitute A Substantial Portion Of The Economy. Liew Expressed The Goal Of Ensuring SMEs Have Access To AI Expertise And Solutions Provided By Curated Solution Providers Through The Portal, Facilitating Increased Innovation And Efficiency.

Highlighting The Potential Of AI To Enhance Efficiency Across Industries, Liew Emphasized The Importance Of Encouraging SMEs To Adopt AI For Streamlining Current Business Processes. He Noted That The AI4SME Portal Is Essential To Facilitate Collaboration Between SMEs And Solution Providers, Promoting Faster Interaction, Partnerships, And Potentially Leading To New Innovations And Business Opportunities.

Liew Shared Future Plans, Stating, "For The Upcoming Year, Our Aim Is To Encourage More Countries To Develop Their Own AI Initiatives Within The Group. Additionally, We Plan To Generate New Go-to-market Resources And Guidance For Other Operators To Effectively Engage SMEs And Emerging AI Solution Providers. The Group Will Consolidate Efforts To Create A New Resource, AI4SME, Offering A Simplified Introduction To AI Tailored For SMEs, Drawing On Years Of Experience With AI For Everyone."

Lee Tiedrich, GPAI Co-Chair Of The IP Committee And Co-Lead For AI & Climate Committee, Highlighted A Key Takeaway From Her Group's Work, Emphasizing The Necessity For Common Contractual Definitions. She Stressed The Importance Of Establishing Terms That Can Be Understood By Different Negotiating Parties.

Tiedrich Also Pointed Out Significant Applications Related To Open Source In The Context Of AI. She Noted That While Discussions Around Open-source Open Access For AI Models Are Ongoing, Current Open-source Agreements May Not Adequately Address Some Of The Unique Aspects Associated With AI Models.
